WALLS, STREETS AND WATERWAYS
Crosby Through a Pinhole
A group of homeless people, as well as people who had experiences of homelessness in the Crosby area of Scunthorpe participated in a series of pinhole photography workshops that I ran. In the workshops cameras that participants created out of litter were used to take photographs of litter around the streets of Crosby, as litter had been identified as a primary cause for concern in the area. For the project we turned the toilet in a local church into a darkroom where we developed all of the pictures. Once the images had been taken and developed by the participants I then took the themes of homelessness and litter further by creating some large and small scale pieces of artwork; processing the images through the computer, photocoying them, and stitching, sticking and re-constructing them for a final exhibition that was held in the glass atrium at Scunthorpe Central Library. Some of the pieces were actually put back out into the streets of Crosby for passers by to respond to, thus placing the litter back into its original context and highlighting the issue still further. |
